Who Knew?!

"Who knew?" is a pretty typical sentiment when it comes to me and what running has become in my world, that's for sure. But, today, we're not talking about me. It's Shout Out time again to Pit Crew #3 who rounded out 80 miles in his runner's club cumulative miles challenge!!! WOW and HOLY MOLY!
As a reminder, his challenge was to complete 25 miles, walking or running, from the beginning of the program in October until the end which is in just a few weeks. Those miles were to be intentional to the program. Deliberate in their purpose. Who knew 25 miles would translate into 80?!

As he hit one goal, he made another. And, then another. As goals were hit, his motivation increased. His desire increased. The program went from our suggesting it would be a good time for a walk to his letting us know it was time to go. The momentum shifted for him throughout the program, and it was so awesome to watch.

He made this program his own. It hasn't ever been just about the walking and running (although he did notice how less winded and more energetic he was on his team this year as compared to last). By and large, the name of his game was social. He ran before school with his friends. He would ask to go on a walk with us because he felt like talking. And, like all members of the family, he kept his eyes peeled for and often found -- you guessed it -- pennies!

One step at a time, he persisted at his own pace and in his own way. And, he blew his own original goal out of the water. While he's proud of himself, he's also pretty "matter of fact" about it. He knows this was on his terms. I just don't think he understands how fantastic those terms are.
CONGRATULATIONS PIT CREW #3!!!!!
